VLink Overview

VLinkLogo150WV-Link enables a VeriFone EFTPOS Terminal to be interfaced to a POS PC (or cash register). This connection is by IP.

It is a proprietary interfaced applet that will allow POS applications or Electronic Cash Registers to request a VeriFone terminal to perform simple payment transactions. The VeriFone V-Link protocol is a serial interface that supports three various ASCII message formats:
• Gen-Link    • VL-Link    • VX-Link

As V-Link can be deployed on various VeriFone terminals, it provides merchants with the flexibility to choose the right POS to terminal integration and the right EFTPOS hardware form factor that best meets their business needs.

VLink350w
Gen-Link – A simple one way message interface that is backwards compatible with several existing industry interfaces. When using Gen-Link the POS sends the transaction $ amount to the VeriFone terminal and the POS involvement is complete.

If the merchant already uses a POS application that supports a simple legacy one way POS interface, it is possible that with no development, VeriFone’s proprietary V-Link interface will work.
VL-Link – This is a two way message interface. The POS sends the transaction amount to the VeriFone terminal and the terminal sends the transaction result back to the POS.

VX-Link – This is a three way message interface.

The POS sends the transaction amount to the

VeriFone terminal and the terminal sends the transaction result back to the POS as well as the receipt data so the POS can combine the EFTPOS receipt with the normal sale receipt.

Network Connectivity Options
V-Link provides multiple communication options to the Paymark switch which is inherent in all VeriFone hardware. Primary communication to the banking switch can be via IP or dial with the option of configuring the terminal for secondary and tertiary redundancy connections.  In sites where there are a large number of terminals per store, it is not cost effective to have a dedicated dial line connected to each terminal in order to provide dial redundancy.  By installing the VEAC device onto the POS network a large number of EFTPOS terminals can be cost effectively connected to a one dial line should the Primary IP connection fail.
